Remote help? How does that work?

I use a special software tool that allows me to access your computer over the internet, just as if I was sitting in a chair in front of it. Slick, huh?
Here's what's important for you to know:
- The tool only works if I have your explicit permission to use it
- You can revoke that permission at any time with the click of a button
- To start the remote session, you'll read an access code to me; that code is one-time use only and will never work again after you (or I) click the button to end the session
- The session is in real time, which means you can watch everything I do as I do it -- feel free to "look over my shoulder" while I work on your device
- More than likely, we'll be on the phone together as I work, so you can ask and I can explain anything and everything
Before our session begins, I'll send you an email with instructions on what you need to do to get ready. That email will be very short, because it's crazy easy for you.
Help comes with a price. What's yours?

I strive to make my pricing transparent and simple. No hidden fees, no gotchas, no estimating low and charging high. As a gesture of good faith and in the interest of trust and transparency, here is how I charge for my work, all spelled out so there are no surprises. (Who does that?!)
Flat rate for most things
If the service I provide for you conforms to the following:- Can be done remotely;
- Takes me an hour-ish or less to complete; and
- Is not related to, or performed for, a business...
It turns out that the majority of the work I do for home users falls into this category.
Bigger things: hourly rate
If what you need is any combination of time-consuming, complex, can't be done remotely, requires the purchase of parts or devices or software, requires multiple consultation sessions, or requires that I travel (within or out of the Buffalo region), then I charge my flat rate for the first hour (or the initial full consultation) and then $160 USD per hour beyond that, charged in quarter-hour increments.
Other info
After discussing your needs and understanding how I can help (no charge for that, of course!), I should have a pretty clear idea of the scope of my services for you. I'll explain my plan and my price in detail, and I won't begin work until you're comfortable.If your service will be a flat-rate job, I'll ask that you pay ahead of time, prior to my commencing work.
If it's a bigger job, I'll send an invoice when I'm finished. I'll always do my best to give you options and keep you apprised of how much work I'm doing along the way.
